‘Aydan & Evan’ is a short film starring Aidan Cheng (You, Devils, Harlots) and Misia Butler (Kaos, The School of Good & Evil). Written & directed by Elizabeth Cassidy and produced by Andriani Scordellis, the film follows Aydan, who, feeling lost in his filmmaking career, meets Evan at an afterparty. The film unfolds through Aydan’s memory of meeting Evan. As Aydan tries to unravel his romantic feelings for Evan, we are submerged in his recollection of that night; a space caught between memory and fantasy.
Cassidy says: “Aydan & Evan started from this disconnection I had with myself and my future. While reflecting on this, I was heavily influenced by themes of romance and memory and how they are portrayed in film. From this, I started writing the script, centering the story on my own experience of feeling lost, detached from myself, and how this could be explored through romance. Desire, as well as the memory of desire and how it lingers on your mind, almost obsessively, became the driving force of the story. I wanted the audience to not only feel the desire, but the hope desire brings to the protagonist for a fresh start.”
