Directed by and starring Jacinta Compton, ‘The Girl, The Lamb and The Man’ is a short drama, following a 15 year old girl longing to be chosen by her mother. It acknowledges the rupturing that occurs between a mother and daughter in a domestic environment, where a step fathers violence is accepted and imminent. We observe how the girl attempts to cope with her reality by nurturing her pet lamb until she is drawn into the orbit of a local boy-racer.
Compton says: 'This film is very personal. It reflects on a part of my childhood, so the heart of it sits close to my own. The film is built on a lot of questions I had as 15 year old and some that are still with me today. I read once this quote “closing the distance between yourself and those that raised you is a never ending pursuit” I believe this film was that pursuit for me and that sentiment was a truth I wasn’t expecting to find. I wrote and shot it on the land that I grew up on, underneath the maunga I grew up under - Saddle Hill. One fun fact about the film is that the final song that plays in the film is called Saddle Hill by Pixie Williams. We were gifted the song by Pixies daughter, who gave us her blessing and shared with us her mothers very own connection to the hill - the guardian.'
