Diana Cam Van Nguyen is a Czech-Vietnamese director based in Prague. This short film about life after the loss of a loved one deals with a difficult topic, using techniques of both live-action and animated film. Real experiences of the narrators are combined with animated sequences reconstructing painful situations, looking into the thoughts of three young people untimely exposed to death.
Nguyen " The hybrid genre of animated documentary holds many advantages. I have realized that it is a suitable form for searching for one’s own past and for expressing a subjective view. It keeps a strong emotional dimension at the same time.
Apart is a confessions of three of my close friends. They all share the same experience of losing one of their parents. The aim of the film is not just to tell about the death of their parents but it should primarily touch the absurdity of meeting the death despite being so young. The stories and confessions of my friends shows me how strong and brave they are. How fast they have to grow up and become adults. "
