Taking place in a surreal therapist's session, and using dialogue lifted from real women's encounters, this short by director Florence Kosky and actor Jessamine Bell delves into societal reactions to survivors of sexual assault.
Through Bell taking on a variety of roles, we experience the patient's visual internalisations via the responses of others to her trauma. From the dismissive to the banal, using dialogue lifted from real women's encounters, it captures society's response to sexual assault.
Kosky says: 'This was an amazing opportunity to play with stylistic techniques I’ve loved from 20th century photography and theatre - specifically Cindy Sherman and Bertolt Brecht - and bring them into a modern conversation. It really helped to approach a topic like sexual assault with the levity and emotional distance this kind of style creates, so we can focus on a critique of society’s way of dealing with it, as opposed to individual trauma, and open up a dialogue without being triggering or re-traumatising viewers.I was incredibly privileged to work with Jessamine who is not only a fearless performer but an excellent writer and I think we created something very special during what was a cathartic process for both of us.'
