In a world recovering from an ecological disaster, a woman struggles with the sudden disappearance of her lover. As she battles loneliness and despair, she discovers that true love can’t be replicated by technology, and the enduring force of nature always prevails.

'March 48th' is a dystopian, women-driven love story shot on 16mm film. The film is a visual essay on environmental and technological shifts and their impact on humanity, as well as an exploration of love and birth. Set in the post-common era on the surreal date of March 48th, the story follows two human-like robots, SK and ST, who labor in a vast, mechanical factory. Despite their programmed obedience, they fall in love — a forbidden act in this rigid society. When their bond is discovered, they are forcibly separated. SK is given a self-soothing device to suppress her emotions and return to work, but the memory of love proves stronger. In her loneliness and desperation, she attempts to call out to ST using a whistle made of grass.

Meanwhile, ST has been exiled to the wild, reminiscent of Brave New World. There, she now holds a child in her arms, realising that the love she feels for her baby overcomes any imposed rules.

Supported by Kodak, March 48th embraces the raw, tactile quality of film to contrast the sterile, digitised world it portrays, reinforcing its themes of nature and resistance.
