Dance interpretation of birth of three crickets

LA-based filmmaker Elizabeth Brissenden aka Machete Bang Bang is an all around female creative machine. She directed, edited and danced in this surreal short choreographed by her fellow dancer Toogie, scored by all-female vocalists Zap Mama (with a touch of Missy Elliot's Work It).

We explored characters and feelings that we as women are made up of yet rarely get to showcase.

'We made this with the intention of juxtaposition. From sexy to old, angry to awed, pretty to weird--we explored characters and feelings that we as women are made up of yet rarely get to showcase. It took us five rehearsals to conceptualise. And it took us five hours to shoot. It took me three edit passes to lock. It took us no time to understand we made something special. Chirp chirp chirp.

The crickets were born.
