Angels that Smell of Gasoline

Dance experimental film focusing on queer sins through the figures of an angel, a saint and a fighter.

Drawing from documentary footage of artist duo Lolo&Sosaku's performance, the film is grounded on the experience of a club night to guide a journey in self-discovery. The film was made in collaboration with artists Lolo&Sosaku dancer Lewis Walker, stripper and MMA fighter Black Venus and visual artist Molar.

The piece is written and directed by Maite de Orbe, London-based Spanish visual artist whose work primarily focuses on collaborating with queer communities, drag performers and sex workers.

De Orbe notes: 'I wanted to make this film because I have a recurring obsession with seeing queer people as angels. Not necessarily as religious figures, but mythological ones. I was going through a period of grief that made me heightened the value of the people around me, those who were gone and those artists who had paved the way. The film is full of references and is an invitation to own your sin, live your life and become your truest self.'
