Ultra Low

A buddy cop film for stoners and hapless artists

Tensions grow between two friends as their attempt to make an independent film together goes absurdly wrong.

Director Bianca Poletti: 'ULTRA LOW stemmed from a conversation between Allison (the writer on this ) and I on different stories we had from when we both first started making films. That first invincible feeling of excitement before you make your first film, contrasted with the hilarious reality of how many things can go wrong along the way. I really love dark comedies that stem from truth and human based moments, like in Fleabag, White Lotus and Catastrophe. Comedy that is relatable and really just making fun of how messy and amazing humans and situations can be. Funny enough, when making UL,  A LOT of things went wrong along the way for us. What was supposed to be a short 2 day shoot, ended up being a 3 almost 4 day shoot. The majority of the story takes place in the car, playing with that road trip, buddy cop type of feel. HOWEVER, I would NOT recommend shooting a 24 script page that mostly takes place in a car, with a low indie budget and in Los Angeles. The original location we booked just for one of the days, was an amazing backlot with a ton of our house locations etc... However on the day that we shot there, we were rushing but still behind and didn't get to use the roads there, which was the main reason to shoot on that location. Day 2, we tried again to capture the car moments and ran out of time due to other scenes, then we added a third day, and barely covered everything. We stole all of those shots, driving around LA in different neighborhoods, shooting what we could while dodging the cops and neighbors along the way. Our sound person got sick halfway through day one and we were in the middle of nowhere on the backlot, and couldn't get a quick backup, we were running so behind on all 3 days, that we were only able to do 1-2 takes of each moment and set up, and so many other little things that popped up during this shoot. What I loved about this and why I'm sharing it, is that even when you have the resources, and the passion to make something, filmmaking can be so unpredictable, and hilarious.'
