Katya Abedian is an award-winning South-African-Persian, self-taught film director, photographer and writer. She was born and raised in South Africa and her love for the African continent runs deep. Her first short film “Skin Diver”, which she wrote, produced and directed independently between 2017-2018 straight after graduating high school, received international success; screening in Cannes, Paris, Czech Republic, Ghana and locally in The Cape Town International Film & Festival The Jozi Film Festival --- in which the film was awarded “Best South African Student Film”. Since then, Katya has released three other short films and worked on music videos for Ricky Rick and Sho Madjozi. Katya is currently based in Johannesburg and is also studying medicine at Wits while passionately pursuing filmmaking. As a Bahá’í, Katya aspires to create artwork that advocates for the unification and oneness of mankind.
